Thank you Chef Dewanna for bringing your soulful skills to San Antonio; thank you for your Gumbo that's so filled with interesting, flavorful ingredients; thank you for adding a whole new dimension to San Antonio's food scene. Our red beans & rice, gumbo, fried shrimp were a feast of flavors. We brought our own beer and wine and the chef joined us after the meal to share some and to talk about food and how she moved to SA after "the Storm" that slammed in New Orleans and drove away almost the entire population.San Antonio is the beneficiary of the Storm; the Big Easy Cafe transported us back to New Orleans for a couple of hours and it sure was a great trip.

Cajun Best in San Antonio. I had the smothered ribs. My husband had the sausage and red beans and rice. We topped it with double chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. There was a fabulous piano player. By far, the best Cajun/Creole food in San Antonio! A Gem! Worth the trip.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO SEA ISLAND!! I saw the menu/pics online and couldn't wait to go. 3 bucks for 5 frozen hush puppies.. an inch in diameter. REALLY? The cajun rice and red beans and rice were OK. I asked for my tilapia to be blackened instead of fried? Sure.. for 2.75 MORE. Then it was pink and frozen fish. Wow. I couldn't eat. The fried catfish? Bland and frozen. The "blackeyed pea jambalaya"? Horribly bitter concoction. The "corn" was dehydrated kernels, brown, and the side dish it was served in was set right on top of the jambalaya. Yes.. that's what I said . Nothing authentic about this place. Dessert you say? no thanks. 40 bucks later..

Questions & Answers

I would have definitely asked for a manager and asked them about it or at least bring it to their attention. I have never had combos, so cannot answer that question by Nicole Valdes.

Thanks Aldine

Depends on who is working when you go in. I've ussually been at night and early mornings. The 2 servers I've had (over multiple visits) have ranged from ok but a bit slow, to fast and attentive.

Who cares. It's a restuarant. If you want to eat there...go. if not...don't

I guess I was there on a good day. Overall, there are better IHOP locations nearby.
